Extra Individual Audience Research

Romantic comedy's almost always contain themes which are relatable to everyone, meaning they can pull in a very wide audience. The romantic side of the film often appeals to a female audience while the comedy side more often appeals to a male audience.

Our film is is going to be more aimed at men, we will need to make sure there are more elements that will attract men, than women.

This could be things such as:
  • Attractive female(s)
  • Comedy relating to things that men would find particularly amusing
  • Relatable male situations
  • Main relatable male character(s)
Romantic comedies that have been popular with the male audience:

  • When Harry Met Sally (1989) - explores whether men and women truly be friends, or does sex always get in the way?

  • The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) - focuses on a groups of funny male characters, trying to get one friend a girl.
  • There's Something About Mary (1998) - 'A beautiful titular girl (Cameron Diaz) and the gang of losers who love her and vie for her attention. Like most of their movies, a gentle spirit hides beneath gross-out gags and Diaz has real chemistry with Ben Stiller's luckless romantic.'

All of these films have story lines which include relatable situations for many males. This is a huge factor is their success with a male audiences.
