Mainstream and Independent Film Openings

Independent films

Independent film companies have a lot less money to make their films with than mainstream companies do. This means that the films they make will not be able to included the best technology, the most well known actors, or be distributed to many people.

Mainstream films

Mainstream film companies have a lot of money for things such as the latest technology, well known actors and can be distributed almost everywhere. They often have story lines which appeal to everyone, as well, so that many people watch and they earn more money.

Stuart. A life Backwards

This is an example of a independent film. This is clear from the unique storyline, because it would not appeal to a mass audience, but only a niche group who are interested in the themes it carries. It explores the relationships and experiences of the characters, meaning that this film would not include the hypodermic needle theory, as it involves deeper interest in to the characters and their stories, not just simply watching for entertainment. The quite rough quality and the quite unknown actors (in 2007) also make it clear that it is an independent film as the company did not have the money to use the latest, high quality cameras, or use the biggest actors.

Inception

Inception is an example of a mainstream film. Although this isn't a film that can be just watched, without any further involvement needed, it is still a film which appeal to a mass audience. This is because of the incredibly well known actors involved and straight from the opening you can see the clear fish achieved by the best technology being used and also the locations that it was filmed in, all showing that the film had a huge budget.
